The Opera One web browser is now available to download complete with an integrated AI called Aria.
Opera offered an early access developer build of Opera One back in April, but the focus was on demonstrating the modular, multithreaded features it contained. At the time, Opera said it was planning to ship its own AI engine, and now we finally get to use it.
According to Opera, One has been "redesigned from the ground up to usher in a new era of AI-based browsing." The integrated artificial intelligence is called Aria, and it was developed through a collaboration with OpenAI. Aria uses Opera's own Composer AI engine and connects to OpenAI's GPT 3.5, but then adds extra capabilities such as live web results and benefits from access to all of Opera's support documentation.
As Aria forms an integral part of the browser, users can instantly interact with it by tapping CTRL+/ or CMD+/ depending on your operating system. This will bring up a command line for chatting with Aria and offering a similar experience to that of ChatGPT. There's also an AI Prompts feature, which will allow Aria to respond to text (either right-clicked or highlighted) with contextual prompts, and ChatGPT is available on the sidebar.
Opera is keen to point out, however, that it wants users to remain in control, so accessing the AI services Opera One offers is opt-in. Taking advantage of Aria therefore requires signing up for a free Opera account first.
Apart from AI, Opera One uses "Tab Islands" to easily organize tabs into their own groups (islands). This can be done automatically and/or manually. Then there's the new modular design and multithreaded compositor, which combine to offer a browser that can dynamically adapt depending on what the user is doing while promising a faster and smoother user interface thanks to multithreading.
