Twitter/X is prepping an algorithm update that could change what you see on the For You feed.
"A major update to the recommendation algorithm is rolling out over the next few days," Elon Musk tweeted on Friday.
Musk says the move "will help surface smaller accounts and posts outside of your friend-follows network." For those concerned about seeing random tweets outside their areas of interest, Musk promises the algorithm will "undergo continuous improvement.”
Musk didn't specify if these smaller accounts need to be X Premium members. As TechCrunch notes, there's been a heavy focus on popular and paid accounts on X of late, which makes sense given the need to boost revenue. Those with paid accounts can write 10,000-word posts, upload two-hour videos, and earn money on viral tweets.
But now, smaller creators may now get the chance to be seen, potentially increasing their followers—and perhaps necessitating an upgrade to X Premium. Those creators could also make the platform more popular, which is something Musk has been struggling with since taking over the site last year. X users should keep an eye on their For You feed over the coming days.
