Maestro, Bradley Cooper's second directorial run after A Star Is Born, is set to bring the life of New York composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein to audiences, having premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival.

Following the film's first look, Netflix has dropped another trailer for Maestro, which teases some of the film's much-talked about performances from Cooper and Carey Mulligan, and a lot of Cooper's visual odes to Hollywood's Golden Age.

Maestro focuses on Cooper as Bernstein through his complex marriage with Chilean-Costa Rican actor Felicia Montealegre, played by Carey Mulligan. The film tracks their entire relationship, through their meeting at a party in 1946 amid Bernstein's rising career, through their early courtship, marriage, honeymoon phase, and starting a family, through his affairs with men, and his dealing with Montealegre's death in 1978.

Since showing at film festivals this year, Maestro has divided critics, including Mashable's Siddhant Adlakha, who wrote, "Bradley Cooper’s second outing behind the camera is an enormous stylistic departure from his first...However, what they have in common (apart from depicting the love lives of artists) is that they’re both good films that come ever so close to being great."

How to watch: Maestro hits select theaters Nov. 22 and is streaming on Netflix Dec. 20.
