Linda Evangelista has made a rare comment about co-parenting with her son Augustin’s stepmother, Salma Hayek. The 58-year-old model spoke candidly about her relationship with her ex, François-Henri Pinault, and his wife, Hayek, during a recent interview with Vogue while appearing on the cover of the magazine’s September issue. She revealed that, during the holidays, her 16-year-old son is usually with his father and stepmother, who share a 15-year-old daughter, Valentina. However, according to Evangelista, there was one holiday celebration where she hadn’t felt well, so Hayek stepped in to take care of her. “I was sick at Thanksgiving,” she explained. “And Salma got on the plane with her daughter, came here, and made Thanksgiving dinner. She asked what I wanted - it was a very eclectic wish list.” She continued: “I wanted her Mexican chicken with truffled potatoes. And she spent the day in the kitchen and cooked it herself. No help. The kids helped her at the end.” She went on to praise Hayek for quickly coming to her aid immediately after she’d said that she was sick. “She made a feast - a beautiful, beautiful meal. I had told her that I wasn’t going to have Thanksgiving; I wasn’t feeling well. And she said: ‘Oh yes you are: I am coming.’ And poof, she was here,’” the model added. In 2011, Evangelista filed court papers to seek child support from Pinault, with the document revealing that he was the father of her son. While the pair had dated for three to four months in 2006, Pinault said that he’d only spent about seven days total with the model. They settled the child support case in 2012. It appears that Evangelista’s son and Hayek have gotten close over the years. In 2021, Hayek took to Instagram to share a rare snap of her and Augustin on a boat during what appeared to be a family vacation. Augustin also made his red carpet debut in April, alongside Hayek and Valentina, as they attended the Time 100 Gala together. Elsewhere in her interview with Vogue, Evangelista opened up about raising her son while in the spotlight. She recalled how, during the early days of her career, Madison Square Garden would call and offer her courtside seats to Knicks games, which she’d go to with her son. However, according to Evangelista, now that those calls have “stopped,” she and her son buy the tickets themselves. “Out of sight, out of mind. Now we buy our tickets and we sit with the fans in nosebleed - we’re fine with that. I wanted to have a very normal upbringing for my child,” she said. Evangelista also said that her son has questioned the benefits of fame, as he’s asked: “Do you think if they recognised you we would have to be standing in this line?” However, she said that she doesn’t hesitate to counter the question, before explaining that she doesn’t want her child to grow up being “entitled”. “What’s wrong with standing in this line? I stand in lines,” she said. “We went to Chanel a couple of weeks ago to get a present and we waited half an hour to get in. This pie is based on that comforting Greek favourite – spanakopita – although it is far more forgiving to make,” says Ravinder Bhogal. “There is no buttering and layering of delicate filo pastry: instead, the iron-rich mixture of greens and cheese is blanketed under a nest of buttered kataifi pastry, a shredded filo dough that crisps up beautifully when baked or fried. “You’ll find kataifi pastry in the fridge or freezer section of Middle Eastern grocers.” Broccoli, kale and spinach kataifi pie Ingredients: 2 tbsp olive oil 1 onion, thinly sliced 3 garlic cloves, very finely crushed 200g kale, tough ribs removed and leaves roughly chopped 200g spinach 250g broccoli, boiled till tender and roughly chopped 4 eggs 60g pine nuts 60g currants, golden raisins or barberries 250g feta cheese 250g ricotta Zest of 2 lemons and juice of 1 Handful of dill, roughly chopped Handful of flat-leaf parsley, roughly chopped A good grating of nutmeg 150g sour cream 250g kataifi pastry 60g butter, melted White sesame seeds, for sprinkling Sea salt and black pepper Method: 1. Preheat the oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas mark 4. 2. Heat the olive oil in a large pan over low-medium heat, add the onion and sauté for 10 minutes till sweet and caramelised. Add the garlic and fry again till fragrant, then add the kale and soften before adding the spinach. Once the greens are wilted, take off the heat and cool. 3. Transfer to a large bowl along with the broccoli and add the eggs, pine nuts, currants, feta, ricotta, lemon zest and juice, herbs, nutmeg and sour cream, and season with salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly. 4. Pull apart the strands of kataifi pastry to loosen and fluff them up. Stir the butter through the kataifi, coating it well. 5. Pour the spinach and ricotta filling into a deep pie dish – I use a 34cm baking dish. Gently pile the kataifi over the pie filling, sprinkle over the sesame seeds and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the filling is hot and set and the kataifi pastry is golden brown. Software company Adobe unveiled a new futuristic “digital dress” that lets wearers change patterns on its surface on the fly with the click of a button. The dress, created under Adobe’s “Project Primrose”, is made of sequins which are “reflective light-diffuser modules” built using liquid crystals such as those in smart lighting. Researchers say the sequins are basically tiny screens built using smart materials. The dress was unveiled for the first time for the audience at Adobe’s MAX conference last week with the software company describing it as bringing “fabric to life”. Video from the conference showed Adobe researcher Christine Dierk wearing the strapless outfit, which appeared like an average cocktail dress on first impression, but the patterns on it begin to shift immediately with the touch of a remote button. “Unlike traditional clothing, which is static, Primrose allows me to refresh my look in a moment,” the Adobe scientist said while demonstrating that its colors can go from light to dark in a moment. The researcher-turned-model also showed that the dress not only had static changes, but also animated designs with patterns fading in and out. Ms Dierk, who not only designed the dress but also stitched it herself, demonstrated that the outfit will even respond to movement. Researchers say the dress is built using “reflective-backed polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC)” a material commonly used in smart windows. “This low-power non-emissive material can be cut to any shape, and dynamically diffuses light,” scientists wrote in a study presented at a tech conference last year, but it remains unclear how heavy the dress can actually get. “Designers can layer this technology into clothing, furniture, and other surfaces to unlock infinite style possibilities – such as the ability to download and wear the latest design from a favorite designer,” Adobe noted. They said the high-tech sequins are also used for smaller products part of Project Primrose including a handbag and a canvas. “We hope this work inspires future designers of flexible displays,” scientists said.
