AlphaTauri confirm driver pairing for 2024 F1 grid
AlphaTauri will retain Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo for the 2024 Formula 1 season. Red Bull’s sister team had a difficult choice between the duo and Liam Lawson, who has impressed filling in for the injured Ricciardo in the last three races. But the New Zealander will return to Red Bull in a reserve role - with Ricciardo’s full-time return to F1 confirmed. Tsunoda, competing at his home race in Japan this weekend, will race with the Faenza outfit for a fourth consecutive season. Eight-time race winner Ricciardo replaced the axed Nyck de Vries after 10 races this season before injuring his hand in Zandvoort. It remains to be seen whether Ricciardo will return in Qatar in two weeks’ time - if so, this weekend at Suzuka would be Lawson’s final race for the team. The 21-year-old achieved the team’s best-finish with ninth at last Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix. Mercedes team member desperately tries to salvage lost wedding ring after being thrown into Abu Dhabi marina
A Mercedes team member is desperately trying to salvage his lost wedding ring after being thrown into Yas Marina after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. As is often the case following the final race of the season, the team member was chucked into Yas Marina following Sunday’s grand prix. However, disaster struck when he lost his wedding ring and now he has employed the help of a diver – armed with a metal detector and a sieve – in an attempt to retrieve it. A group of freelance reporters, present at the Yas Marina Circuit for the post-season tyre test on Tuesday, told the story on Twitter/X. However, after an hour-long search, which included issues with the metal detector, all that was found was a knife. Those present on-site added that the team member plans to enlist the help of a group of local people in the coming days in order to retrieve the ring. Mercedes finished the 2023 season on Sunday by claiming second in the constructors’ championship – but there was little to celebrate after their first winless season in 12 years. Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, has now gone two years without winning a race. “If we are able to give him [Lewis] a car, he will be fighting for a world championship,” said Mercedes boss Toto Wolff. “I have no doubt. But it is clear if you have a car like we have now, you are not at ease with it. “Red Bull started the new regulations in 2022 with a massive advantage and they have been able to maintain it. “We have a lot of respect for their achievements – from the engineering side, and the driver – and beating them under the current regulations is against the odds. Mount Everest is in front of us.” The 2024 F1 season starts on March 2 with a Saturday night opening race, the Bahrain Grand Prix. Caribbean-inspired coconut and lime cheesecake
Caribbean-inspired coconut and lime cheesecake
The first sweet things I ever made were cheesecakes – they provide endless opportunities to explore flavour and are easy peasy!” says chef and Great British Menu host Andi Oliver. “This particular iteration brings together the creaminess of white chocolate with toasty coconut and vibrant lime to sublime effect. Not too sweet, just right.” Coconut and lime cheesecake Serves: 12 For the base: 100g gingernut biscuits 100g oat biscuits, such as Hobnobs 50g desiccated coconut 120g melted unsalted butter Pinch of salt For the filling: 280g full-fat cream cheese 4 tbsp coconut condensed milk 200ml coconut milk 150ml cream Grated zest and juice of 2 limes 100g white chocolate, melted For the topping: 1 fresh coconut 1 tbsp maple syrup Grated zest of 1 lime 1 fresh mango, peeled, cored, and diced 22-24cm fluted tart tin, base lined with baking parchment Method: 1. Put all the biscuits in a sealable food bag and bash them up to fine crumbs using a rolling pin or similar. Tip the crumbs into a bowl and mix with the toasted coconut, melted butter, and salt. Press into the bottom and sides of the tart tin and chill in the fridge for one hour or until set. 2. Combine all the filling ingredients, apart from the chocolate, in a large mixing bowl. Beat together using an electric hand whisk until smooth and slightly thickened. Mix through the melted white chocolate. Spoon the filling on top of the set base and chill for a couple of hours in the fridge until set (do note that this cheesecake has quite a soft-set finish). 3. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 180C fan. 4. Crack open the fresh coconut and peel off flakes of the flesh using a vegetable peeler. You want about two handfuls in total. Toss the flakes in the maple syrup and half of the lime zest on a baking tray, then toast in the preheated oven for around 10 minutes until crisp. Leave to cool, then top the cheesecake with the toasted coconut. 5. Mix together the diced mango and remaining lime zest and serve a little spoon of this alongside slices of cheesecake, or pile it on top of the cheesecake as well.
