Boxer and rapper KSI and YouTuber-turned-WWE-star Logan Paul sure have hit the jackpot with their drinks company Prime, to the extent it’s sold for ridiculous prices, made one shop in Wakefield go viral, and even been reviewed by foul-mouthed chef Gordon Ramsay. The collaboration between Paul and KSI (real name Olajide “JJ” Olatunji) was announced back in January last year, with the pair just recently touring Munich, Barcelona, Copenhagen and Oslo to promote the drink. Prime has even become the drinks partner for both Arsenal and Barcelona football clubs. However, such success has also caught the attention of legislators, with one US senator, Democrat Chuck Schumer, calling for the company to be investigated by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA). In a letter to the regulator, Mr Schumer wrote: “A simple search on social media for Prime will generate an eye-popping amount of sponsored content, which is advertising. “This content and all the claims made should be investigated, along with the ingredients and the caffeine content in the Prime energy drink.” Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter While Prime Hydration is caffeine-free, the Prime Energy brand contains 200mg of caffeine per 12 ounces, which is about the same as six cans of Coca-Cola or almost two Red Bulls. On Twitter, Mr Schumer went further and claimed the drink contains so much of the stimulant that it “could endanger kids’ health”, but is being “marketed to kids” anyway. “Parents and paediatricians are worried. The FDA must investigate Prime for its absurd caffeine content and its marketing targeting kids on social media,” he wrote. Representatives for Prime, meanwhile, argue the product is clearly labelled as “not recommended for children under 18”. Although the FDA is yet to announce an investigation into the drinks brand, and therefore it’s not yet at risk of being banned in the US, how much money would KSI and Logan Paul stand to lose if such a decision was ever taken? Some insight into just how popular the brand is was given by Paul during an interview on the Australian radio show The Kyle and Jackie O Show in February, in which he said they had garnered “$250m in retail sales [and] $110m gross internally”. “In January of this year, we did $45m,” he added. But of course, Olatunji and Paul won’t see all of that money, with Prime being part of the Congo Brands company and the YouTuber duo reportedly having a combined share of 20 per cent in the brand. Although we don't have the exact estimations, but we imagine the answer to the big question is that the pair would certainly lose a lot of money if they were blocked from selling in a market as big as America. Linda Evangelista has made a rare comment about co-parenting with her son Augustin’s stepmother, Salma Hayek. The 58-year-old model spoke candidly about her relationship with her ex, François-Henri Pinault, and his wife, Hayek, during a recent interview with Vogue while appearing on the cover of the magazine’s September issue. She revealed that, during the holidays, her 16-year-old son is usually with his father and stepmother, who share a 15-year-old daughter, Valentina. However, according to Evangelista, there was one holiday celebration where she hadn’t felt well, so Hayek stepped in to take care of her. “I was sick at Thanksgiving,” she explained. “And Salma got on the plane with her daughter, came here, and made Thanksgiving dinner. She asked what I wanted - it was a very eclectic wish list.” She continued: “I wanted her Mexican chicken with truffled potatoes. And she spent the day in the kitchen and cooked it herself. No help. The kids helped her at the end.” She went on to praise Hayek for quickly coming to her aid immediately after she’d said that she was sick. “She made a feast - a beautiful, beautiful meal. I had told her that I wasn’t going to have Thanksgiving; I wasn’t feeling well. And she said: ‘Oh yes you are: I am coming.’ And poof, she was here,’” the model added. In 2011, Evangelista filed court papers to seek child support from Pinault, with the document revealing that he was the father of her son. While the pair had dated for three to four months in 2006, Pinault said that he’d only spent about seven days total with the model. They settled the child support case in 2012. It appears that Evangelista’s son and Hayek have gotten close over the years. In 2021, Hayek took to Instagram to share a rare snap of her and Augustin on a boat during what appeared to be a family vacation. Augustin also made his red carpet debut in April, alongside Hayek and Valentina, as they attended the Time 100 Gala together. Elsewhere in her interview with Vogue, Evangelista opened up about raising her son while in the spotlight. She recalled how, during the early days of her career, Madison Square Garden would call and offer her courtside seats to Knicks games, which she’d go to with her son. However, according to Evangelista, now that those calls have “stopped,” she and her son buy the tickets themselves. “Out of sight, out of mind. Now we buy our tickets and we sit with the fans in nosebleed - we’re fine with that. I wanted to have a very normal upbringing for my child,” she said. Evangelista also said that her son has questioned the benefits of fame, as he’s asked: “Do you think if they recognised you we would have to be standing in this line?” However, she said that she doesn’t hesitate to counter the question, before explaining that she doesn’t want her child to grow up being “entitled”. “What’s wrong with standing in this line? But, what ingredients and products should we be prioritising in our 50s, to solve common age-related problems?To deal with hyperpigmentation“Once customers hit their 40s, 75% of them are concerned about hyperpigmentation,” explains Dr Ginni Mansberg, GP, skin doctor and founder of Evidence Skincare (ESK). “And that steadily increases over the next two decades. Pigmentation spots can make your skin look more aged. So, if you haven’t yet, now is the time to start thinking about addressing it. “Tackling hyperpigmentation can be tough, but the best results come from using ingredients which target a number of different processes in the hyperpigmentation chain, and healthy doses of patience. And of those processes, inhibiting tyrosinase is the most effective.”So, what is it?“Tyrosinase is the enzyme in the skin which is critical for the creation of your pigment. Hydroquinone, a powerful tyrosinase inhibitor can be prescribed by your doctor, but it can’t be used long-term and pigmentation will bounce back when you stop using it. Rosacea often makes an unwelcome appearance, causing flushing, redness, dilated blood vessels, and burning and stinging.“You might need to cut back on using vitamin C and alpha hydroxy acids for a bit, until your skin settles down,” she adds.For anti-ageing With anti-ageing products riddled with confusing ingredients and ground-breaking ‘new’ technologies, it can be hard to know what will work when every skin type is different.“Prescription vitamin A or tretinoin, is a super effective anti-ageing ingredient, but is often irritating for sensitive rosacea-prone skin,” she explains. But, vitamin A is still really effective for anti-ageing. “So, gentler forms of vitamin A, particularly retinol, is often touted as a tool for rosacea management. There is a small study which showed retinol combats redness and dilated red blood vessels.” To stop sun damage The sun is one of the biggest catalysts for premature skin ageing. “Sun exposure can speed up the ageing process, so sun protection is perhaps the most important part of your morning routine. Use a high-factor SPF that protects the skin from both UV rays and blue light, minimising the impact of environmental damage on your skin,” says Verity Douglas, content editor at Cult Beauty. To keep skin plump “Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate,” says Douglas. “Moisture levels start to deplete as you grow older. Make facial oil your new best friend, and slather your skin with the stuff. If you’re breakout-prone, just add a couple of drops to your moisturiser,” she explains. To protect against pollution Day-to-day life comes with all kinds of damaging pollutants to the skin, which may make you look older. Douglas explains: “Pollutants wreak havoc with cell health and efficacy, so choose a serum brimming with free radical-fighting ingredients; vitamin E, green tea, ginkgo biloba, to name a few, and wear religiously beneath your daily SPF and moisturiser. This will strengthen the skin’s natural defences, while keeping the ‘good stuff’ in, and ‘bad stuff’ out.”
