Less than 10 days before Balmain’s spring/summer 2024 collection is scheduled to hit the runway for Paris Fashion Week, over 50 of the brand’s debut pieces were allegedly “hijacked” and stolen. On Saturday, 16 September, Olivier Rousteing, the Parisian fashion house’s 12-year creative director, took to Instagram to announce the garment crime. The 37-year-old explained how he’d arrived at the office by nine in the morning, anticipating the arrival of the last few designs for their upcoming show. However, he received a call from the driver meant to transport the pieces from an airport in Paris to the Balmain headquarters. The individual confessed that his vehicle had been overtaken, resulting in the theft of more than 50 looks. “Our delivery was hijacked. The camion got stolen. Thank god, the driver is safe,” Rousteing wrote. “So many people worked so hard to make this collection happen. We are redoing everything but this is so so disrespectful.” “This is so unfair. We will work more, days and nights. Our suppliers will work days and nights as well, but this is so disrespectful,” he continued. “I wanted to share this with you to remind you, don’t take anything for guaranteed and please be safe. This is the world we are living in.” The details surrounding the incident, such as the airport location and hijacking time, were not released. Executives flocked to social media, discussing the unheard-of tragedy with their followers. Bernard Garby, luxury client manager at Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, and Esquire, discussed the news on TikTok and described it as “a real fashion drama”. “What happened is something I’ve never heard ever before,” the fashion expert, known to deliver industry recaps every morning, said. Bernard carefully described the unfortunate impact this incident leaves on the brand with a collection debut scheduled for 27 September. “It’s basically a pure robbery,” the famed user proclaimed. “I have never ever heard of anything like that before... They have less than 10 days... How stressful!” Additionally, Bernard made a point to connect this alleged robbery with that of Kim Kardashian on 3 October 2016, when the reality TV star was tied to her hotel bathtub while five men stole her jewellery from the room. But, what ingredients and products should we be prioritising in our 50s, to solve common age-related problems?To deal with hyperpigmentation“Once customers hit their 40s, 75% of them are concerned about hyperpigmentation,” explains Dr Ginni Mansberg, GP, skin doctor and founder of Evidence Skincare (ESK). “And that steadily increases over the next two decades. Pigmentation spots can make your skin look more aged. So, if you haven’t yet, now is the time to start thinking about addressing it. “Tackling hyperpigmentation can be tough, but the best results come from using ingredients which target a number of different processes in the hyperpigmentation chain, and healthy doses of patience. And of those processes, inhibiting tyrosinase is the most effective.”So, what is it?“Tyrosinase is the enzyme in the skin which is critical for the creation of your pigment. Hydroquinone, a powerful tyrosinase inhibitor can be prescribed by your doctor, but it can’t be used long-term and pigmentation will bounce back when you stop using it. More readily available 4-n-butyl resorcinol is effective in shutting down that enzyme production altogether.”To manage sensitivityYou may need to watch out for sensitivity, too. “At this age, most women go through or have just hit menopause,” notes Mansberg. “And what comes with this hormone change is sensitivity. Rosacea often makes an unwelcome appearance, causing flushing, redness, dilated blood vessels, and burning and stinging.“You might need to cut back on using vitamin C and alpha hydroxy acids for a bit, until your skin settles down,” she adds.For anti-ageing With anti-ageing products riddled with confusing ingredients and ground-breaking ‘new’ technologies, it can be hard to know what will work when every skin type is different.“Prescription vitamin A or tretinoin, is a super effective anti-ageing ingredient, but is often irritating for sensitive rosacea-prone skin,” she explains. But, vitamin A is still really effective for anti-ageing. “So, gentler forms of vitamin A, particularly retinol, is often touted as a tool for rosacea management. There is a small study which showed retinol combats redness and dilated red blood vessels.” To stop sun damage The sun is one of the biggest catalysts for premature skin ageing. “Sun exposure can speed up the ageing process, so sun protection is perhaps the most important part of your morning routine. Use a high-factor SPF that protects the skin from both UV rays and blue light, minimising the impact of environmental damage on your skin,” says Verity Douglas, content editor at Cult Beauty. To keep skin plump “Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate,” says Douglas. “Moisture levels start to deplete as you grow older. Make facial oil your new best friend, and slather your skin with the stuff. If you’re breakout-prone, just add a couple of drops to your moisturiser,” she explains. To protect against pollution Day-to-day life comes with all kinds of damaging pollutants to the skin, which may make you look older. Douglas explains: “Pollutants wreak havoc with cell health and efficacy, so choose a serum brimming with free radical-fighting ingredients; vitamin E, green tea, ginkgo biloba, to name a few, and wear religiously beneath your daily SPF and moisturiser. This will strengthen the skin’s natural defences, while keeping the ‘good stuff’ in, and ‘bad stuff’ out.”

In a popular Reddit thread that racked up over 40,000 upvotes, the man claimed his "dinner receipt had a message" at the Oregan restaurant. A photo of the bill showed a seemingly innocent string of meals, followed by "You're an A**hole" with a $15 "fine". Fellow users were quick to share their shock, with many hospitality workers expressing their interest in implementing the so-called fine into their workplace. "I wish we could charge customers for being a**holes. We would make so much money. People are garbage," one wrote. Fortunately, the poster soon realised the mishap and clarified in the comments: "My wife and I went to a restaurant for her birthday and we both had cocktails. I completely forgot the name of the cocktail by the time the receipt came but its name was 'You’re an A**hole, Mr. Burton' lmao it definitely caught me by surprise". A designer dress apparently worth US$1,300 has been criticised as looking “cheap” after a woman posted a video of herself styling it on Instagram. Marjan Tabibzada, a fashion influencer whose Instagram account @youngcouture_ has more than 1.2m followers, shared the clip featuring a pink sheer dress by Jacquemus that currently retails for £970. The silk chiffon maxi dress features a cowl neck and strap detailing, as well as a flowing skirt with a train. Viewers, however, were unimpressed by how the dress looked and criticised it for appearing “cheap” and “not worth” the price tag. In her video, Tabibzada said she purchased a pink slip dress from Amazon to wear underneath the Jacquemus dress because it was “way too see-through”. She accessorised with flowery pink earrings, strappy heels from Zara, and a pearl clutch from Los Angeles brand Cult Gaia. In her caption, Tabibzada wrote: “Is this dress worth US$1,300?” Many of her viewers did not think so, with some saying that the influencer “got scammed” into buying the garment. “Definitely not worth the price… US$13 sure but I wouldn’t even spend US$20 on that,” one person said. A disappointed follower wrote: “Why is it so bad though? I had high hopes.” Explaining why they didn’t like the dress, one person said: “Not in love with the dress, especially with the tag showing through due to the sheerness.
