Mac Miller‘s estate has teamed up with Vans to create a pair of shoes in honour of the five-year anniversary of the rapper’s last album. The late rapper released his album Swimming on 3 August 2018. To celebrate the five-year anniversary of the album this year, Miller’s estate selected appropriate motifs based on both the late rapper’s style and what best represents him for a pair of Vans, one of his favourite sneaker brands. “A pair of black Vans Authentics - one of Malcolm’s favourite shoes, which he wore around the world many times over,” the estate’s Instagram announcement began. “Thanks to our friends at Vans for helping us create a special pair in celebration of the five-year anniversary of Swimming.” The shoes look similar to Vans classic black authentic shoes with a couple of extra details. They feature a yin-yang symbol in black and white with the words “Swimming by Mac Miller” surrounding them in a circle formation. Around the white trim towards the bottom of each shoe, it reads “Mac Miller 1992 to [infinity symbol]” to represent the scope and timelessness of Miller’s influence. Apart from the sentimental details, the shoes have their same original Vans logo on the heel of the sneaker and the iconic white laces. They will come in a pink and purple gradient box with “Swimming Mac Miller” stamped on the side, complete with the Vans logo next to another yin-yang symbol. The special collab can be found only be purchased on Mac Miller’s website, where the shoes will retail for $100. Part of the profit will go to the Mac Miller Fund, which is a part of the Pittsburgh Foundation. The fund is meant to support “young musicians with resources to help realise their full potential through exploration, expression and community,” per their website. Miller’s fifth and final album went on to debut at number three on the Billboard 200 upon release and entered the top 10 a second time one week after the late rapper’s death in 2018. It featured singles including “Self Care”, “What’s the Use?” and “Small Worlds”. Miller died from an accidental overdose on 7 September 2018, a little over a month after the release of Swimming. In 2019, the album was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Rap album category. The album lost to Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy. One year later, Miller’s record label, Warner Music, released an album that the rapper was in the middle of recording called Circles, which was meant to be a companion album to Swimming. Together, they were supposed to fit the theme of swimming in circles. “He had been working with Jon Brion, who after hearing some early versions of songs cleared his calendar to help Malcolm fine-tune them,” a statement on the rapper’s Instagram read. “After his passing, Jon dedicated himself to finishing Circles based on his time and conversations with Malcolm.” Released in January 2020, the album featured the singles “Good Blues” and “New World.” Swimming was later certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2021. Being lonely may the increase risk of heart disease in diabetes patients, research suggests. Scientists have found loneliness to be a bigger risk factor for coronary heart disease – a condition where the blood vessels supplying the heart are narrowed or blocked – than diet, exercise, smoking and depression. The researchers said their findings, published in the European Heart Journal, highlight the importance of meaningful social relationships to stay healthy. Study author Professor Lu Qi, of Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, said: “The quality of social contact appears to be more important for heart health in people with diabetes than the number of engagements “We should not downplay the important of loneliness on physical and emotional health. “I would encourage patients with diabetes who feel lonely to join a group or class and try to make friends with people who have shared interests.” For the study, the researchers looked at data from the UK Biobank – an online database of medical and lifestyle records from more than half a million Britons – involving more than 18,000 adults aged between 37 to 73. These people had diabetes but no heart disease at the start of the decade-long study. The researchers used questionnaires to assess loneliness and other factors that may affect relationships such as body mass index (BMI), physical activity, diet, alcohol, smoking, and medications, blood pressure, cholesterol and control of blood sugar. The findings suggest that asking patients with diabetes about loneliness should become part of standard assessment, with referral of those affected to mental health services Prof Lu Qi Over the course of more than 10 years, more than 3,000 people developed heart disease, which included coronary heart disease or stroke. The researchers found those who scored the highest in loneliness had a 26% greater risk of heart disease, compared to people with lower scores. The team also found loneliness to be a bigger risk factor for heart disease than diet, exercise, smoking and depression – but showed a weaker influence when compared to kidney function, cholesterol and BMI. Adele has opened up about her health after experiencing a flare-up of her spinal condition during her Las Vegas residency. During one of the “Hello” singer’s recent concerts - as part of her “Weekends with Adele” residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace - she explained to fans that before stepping on stage, she had fallen and was unable to move due to a sciatica attack. A sciatica flare-up comes from the sciatic nerve when it is compressed or irritated. When this happens, a person can experience pain that radiates from their lower back all the way down to their feet. “They picked my whole body up off the floor,” Adele explained to the crowd, according toThe Sun. The singer also revealed to the audience that she had to take a break mid-show over the weekend, saying: “I am going to sit down and rest my sciatica.” This isn’t the first time the “Easy on Me” singer has spoken openly about her health. During a performance on New Year’s Eve last December, Adele struggled to walk across the stage as she explained her chronic back pain and sciatica. “I have to waddle these days as I have really bad sciatica," she said at the time. Not only was she struggling to walk, but she also shared that she was performing with a disintegrated disc in her spine. “Is anyone else kind of my age starting getting bad knees? I have got really bad sciatica in my left leg and my L5 disc is not f***ing there anymore. It’s worn away,” she said back in February. The L5 spinal nerve provides sensation to the outer side of the lower leg, the upper part of the foot, and the space between the first and second toe. The nerve also controls hip, knee, foot and toe movements, according to the Cleveland Clinic. The sciatic nerve consists of the L4 and L5 nerves plus other sacral nerves, the website states. In an interview with Elle last year, Adele also said that she slipped her L6 disc when her son, Angelo, jumped out to scare her as she came out of the bathroom.
