Lando Norris says Formula One drivers are never operating at 100 per cent and has called on the sport’s rule-makers to make the cars lighter. The McLaren driver, 23, is now in his fifth season in F1 and has emerged as one of the strongest drivers on the grid. But the British star admits he has some frustration with the cars and feels they limit how the drivers can perform. “It is frustrating. It feels like you drive so slow,” Norris said ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix. “You just feel like you are not driving at 100 per cent. You still have to drive at 95 per cent as well as you can.” “There are still differences between drivers of achieving that, how you drive at 95 per cent. You still see differences between how Lewis (Hamilton) can do it and how a rookie can do it. “You never drive at 100 per cent in the race because if you have one slide you’re done. You are just managing your tyres and your temperatures. “It is just the way things are. I’m sure in other categories it is similar-ish but you just want to be able to race closer. “I would make the cars lighter, as simple as that. You make them quicker by being lighter, you then remove some of the aero stuff which is now what makes them so impressive. “You remove some of that and it stops dirty air as much and then you will be able to follow better.” Regulation changes set to come into effect in 2026 are expected to reduce the weight of the cars and also make the tyres thinner. Norris is hopeful this is the case and believes the onus is on each team to get the car right for when the new rules are introduced. It for this reason that Norris has huge admiration for Max Verstappen and Red Bull’s domination of the sport over the last two seasons, amid criticism that it is bad for F1. “They are doing a better job. That is what F1 is about,” Norris added. “It is not just about the driver; F1 is one of very, very few sports in the world where there is so much talked about the driver but it is very much a team sport.” “It is not just who is the best driver, it does not work like that. It is about the machine and the driver. “That is the competition of F1, it is who can build and design the best cars. At the minute Red Bull are doing it, so hats off to them.” Norris disagrees with the opinion that people will turn away from F1 if Verstappen keeps winning, making the comparison with Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt. “People do not find F1 boring,” Norris said. “Of course you want excitement for the win. That is the pinnacle of it, like Lewis against Max in 2021. That is probably the most exciting season in a very, very long time. “When Usain Bolt was winning every race, it’s boring because you want to see a close win. “But do you stop watching that because Bolt is winning? Lewis Hamilton said he was honoured to be fighting two world champions after finishing behind Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso at the Canadian Grand Prix. In his newly revamped Mercedes machine, Hamilton claimed his second podium in succession, a fortnight after he finished runner-up to Verstappen at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya. “It is quite an honour to be up there with two world champions,” said Hamilton. “I was really excited to be third, and just trying to be in that mix. “We didn’t have the pace today. We knew this would not be our strongest circuit because we struggle in the low-speed corners, and that was where I was losing time to Fernando and Max. “But we are chipping away and I do believe we will get there at some stage. Our pace was better today so we are going in the right direction.” Hamilton scored just one top-three finish in the opening six rounds of the year but the seven-time world champion will now head to the next round in Austria on July 2 with the momentum of two strong showings in Barcelona and Montreal. The 38-year-old started third, and was up to second at the opening corner after he breezed past a slow-starting Alonso. Hamilton kept ahead of Alonso at the first round of pit stops, but he could do little to prevent the evergreen Spaniard from regaining second place on lap 22 of 70. “Aston Martin took a step ahead of us this weekend with their upgrades but we are working on bringing more upgrades to move forward,” added Hamilton. “It is great to have this consistency and to be up on the podium.” For Verstappen, the Red Bull man completed an emphatic lights-to-flag victory to finish 9.5 seconds clear of Alonso and move 69 points clear at the summit of the world championship. One bride wanted to make sure her wedding guests were lovin’ the special day. Stephanie Arielle, known for her wedding content on TikTok, recently posted about her decision to have McDonald’s cater her wedding for the low price of just over $200. “We had 75 guests total and we ordered 100 chicken McNuggets, 25 junior chickens [a grilled chicken burger], 25 cheeseburgers and 50 small fries,” she said in an interview with Newsweek. Text across the screen of her video explains that the McDonald’s was only a midnight snack and not the actual food for the ceremony. “If you want a midnight snack at your wedding but don’t wanna get your guests off the dance floor, you’re gonna wanna hear this tip,” she said in her TikTok. “The best way to keep your guests dancing all night long is to either pass your midnight snack or put the table right at the edge of the dance floor. We did this with McDonald’s and it worked amazing. Highly recommend.” Many people loved the idea and joked in the comments section about how they wanted to do something similar at their own wedding. We told him exactly what we wanted.” This included making sure the food arrived at 11 pm. The manager responded by saying he would make sure to have enough staff that day and would deliver the food personally himself. He put the food in smaller packages than normal to make them easier to grab and go on the dance floor. The couple then confirmed with the fast food restaurant the week before the wedding and put a serving table right next to the dance floor. Since first being posted on 6 October, the TikTok has received over three million views. Many people commented on the follow-up video too, mentioning how impressed they were with both the idea itself and how nice the restaurant’s manager was. “I don’t drink but having McDonald’s fries while drunk sounds incredible,” one commenter wrote. “He did amazing! I hope you tipped him well,” another commenter pointed out. “When we were looking for a late night snack, we immediately thought of McDonald’s," Arielle said to Newsweek. “It’s our favorite guilty pleasure food and we know that everyone loves a burger or some nuggets once they’ve had a few drinks.” The Independent has reached out to Arielle for comment.
