Cara Delevingne has described herself as “stable and calmer” since embracing sobriety, but noted how challenging the process has been. The model and actress first spoke about her decision to go sober earlier this year, following a series of images that were taken of her at Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles last year. The 30-year-old told Elle UK that she felt a weight was lifted after speaking about her struggles. She said: “For a long time, I felt like I was hiding a lot from people who looked up to me. I finally feel as though I can be free and myself, fully.” On embracing sobriety, she added: “It hasn’t (been easy), but there have never been moments when I’m like, ‘This isn’t worth it’. “It’s been worth every second. I just don’t know what it would take for me to give it up. I am stable. I’m calmer. “Before, I didn’t trust myself. I second-guessed myself constantly. There was a lot of anxiety involved. Now I just feel free of that.” Delevingne, who found fame as the face of luxury British fashion house Burberry in 2011, spoke about her struggle with the quick ascent to global stardom. She told Elle UK: “It didn’t feel real. I didn’t feel like I deserved it. I didn’t feel worthy. I was still stuck in this mindset of not being good enough. “I was doing the best I could, but I wasn’t really appreciating every moment. Inside, I felt very different to how I looked.” The model also praised her relationship with London musician Leah Mason, better known as her stage name Minke, in the process of becoming more secure. She said: “My girlfriend has been really wonderful in introducing me to a lot of things and people. “Being with my girlfriend, in this relationship, there are just so many things that came at once that have made me so happy and comfortable with who I am.” Delevingne also praised her close friendships within the fashion industry including with Jourdan Dunn and Karlie Kloss who taught her “a lot about living”. Having found fame as a model, Delevingne branched into acting with a minor role in Joe Wright’s 2012 adaptation of Anna Karenina. She later went on to secure leading roles in Paper Towns and Suicide Squad. On trying to live without expectations, she added: “It’s not easy. Jonnie Irwin has revealed that he has been admitted to hospital as he deals with terminal cancer. The Escape to the Country presenter, 49, said in November that he “doesn’t know how long” he has left to live, after first being diagnosed with lung cancer in August 2020, which later spread to his brain. He went public with his diagnosis in November 2022, after keeping it a secret from his fans for more than two years. Since his announcement, Irwin has been keeping his social media followers up to date with his condition. In the latest update, the father-of-three revealed he has gone into hospital to be “monitored” but hopes to be released in time for a scheduled appearance at A Place In The Sun Live in London this weekend (2-4 June). He wrote in an Instagram post: “In hospital this week monitoring a changeover in my pain management regime.” “Fingers crossed I’ll be out in time to make an appearance on Sunday for this weekends @aplaceinthesunofficial LIVE event at @olympialondon in Kensington,” he continued. If he is released from the hospital and attends the event, Irwin will be joined on stage by fellow presenters Jasmine Harman, Ben Hillman and Laura Hamilton. He concluded the post: “Hope to see you there…x.” In a new podcast OneChat released last week, Irwin said that he was living under a “dark cloud” for the two years he hid his cancer from the world, adding that he kept his condition a secret so that he could continue working and “provide” for his family. Irwin and his wife Jessica have three children; three-year-old son Rex and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac. Elsewhere in the interview revealed that he had been close to death’s door “at least twice”, emphasising that he prefers to think of his situation as “living with cancer, rather than dying from cancer”. Irwin explained how he began to feel “alive” again after going public with his illness, but noted that didn’t mean his journey had been easy. “I have been close to death’s door, twice at least,” he said. He added: “You lose your memory, you lose your patience. I have got a very short temper. Michael Masi could return to a position Formula 1 in the future, says FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem. Australian race steward Masi was in the hot seat for the controversial end to the 2021 F1 season, when Max Verstappen overtook Lewis Hamilton on the final lap in Abu Dhabi to win his first world title. An investigation in the months afterwards blamed “human error” before Masi was sacked, following the botched safety car and lapped cars procedure which opened the door for Verstappen. Yet Ben Sulayem, who took over as FIA boss five days after that 2021 finale, insists Masi could return to the fold if the right position came up. “I always apologise, but I cannot apologise for something which was done before my time,” said Ben Sulayem, in a wide-ranging interview. “OK, I will do the apology, but I will bring Michael Masi again. Do you think that is right? “The poor guy is a person who has been attacked and abused. Michael Masi went through hell. Hell! And if I see there is an opportunity that the FIA needs, and Michael Masi is the right person, I will bring him.” The Emirati executive also compared Hamilton losing his grip on what would have been a record-breaking eighth world title to the 1966 World Cup final, when England beat West Germany following a goal which was given despite replays showing the ball did not cross the line. “I even had people threatening me to kill me because I had the power to change it (the Abu Dhabi result),” Ben Sualyem added. “But I said to them: ‘Sorry, the World Cup of 1966, England against Germany, was that correct? A Brit was left bemused after being told there was no “vino” for sale at a Rugby World Cup stadium in France. Linda Russ, 64, says women weren’t catered for at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille - as only beer was available. The stadium is located in the historic French province of Provence, which is famous for its wines. But Linda claims the irony was missed by staff - who she says stared back at her with a blank expression and said “non” when she asked for a glass. She was in the south of France with a group of friends to watch England and Scotland’s first games over the weekend. Linda, a retired school operations manager from Bristol, said: “Being in Provence, you would have thought they’d have wine. “The restaurants nearby had it, but there was none in the stadium. It was strange. “There were no alcoholic drinks at the Vélodrome for women. The only alcoholic drink available was beer and it ran out on both days before the match started. “We asked for wine and they said no. “We always go to the Bristol Bears rugby back home. It’s usually always cider or wine for the girls. “I think they just weren’t equipped to deal with rugby fans. “The people serving were so young, we asked for “vino” and they couldn’t understand us at all.” Wine is thought to have been made in Provence for at least 2,600 years, ever since the ancient Greeks founded the city of Marseille in 600 BC. And France and wine are synonymous the world over. Linda, who often goes to rugby games with family and friends, says she enjoys a drink while watching. She said: “We were thinking they may not have cider, which is what we normally have as we’re from Bristol. “We even tried ordering vino blanc and vino rouge, but they didn’t understand us at all!” Linda says the beer that was available quickly ran out too - which she views as a man’s drink. She said: “It was very strange that there seemed to only be alcohol for the men and not for the women. “We also noticed the toilets didn’t stock up on paper towels from the previous night in the women’s toilets. “It was really poor preparation - they were completely overwhelmed.” Asked how the stadium should better prepare for games, Linda said: “Get some wine in, get more beer in, and be more prepared.” “They’ve got to realise us rugby fans drink a lot.” The Stade Vélodrome and World Rugby were approached for comment.
