Street Vendor Harassment Is on the Rise. These Latines Are Fighting Back
In February 2023, a video of women harassing a Mexican street vendor in California seared through social media. It not only sparked outrage, but it forced viewers to confront a cruel reality: U.S. street vendors, many of whom come from Latin America, are one of the most vulnerable workforces in the country. In 2022, the Los Angeles Police Department received 156 reports of crimes committed against street vendors from January 1 to July 31 — a 52.9% increase from the same period in 2021. As usual, Latines are stepping up to protect our own and have spearheaded street vendor advocacy initiatives nationwide.

Man forced to go on date with 'Taylor Swift' after losing fantasy football league
A bloke was forced to go on a date with a cardboard cut-out of Taylor Swift after losing at fantasy football. Greig Dick was forced to sit at a table with it as a forfeit for coming last in his league. Unlucky Greig and his date were both given a menu at a local restaurant in Motherwell, Scotland. A grinning waitress took their order. The fake Taylor was later taken to a casino where Greig put a £22 bet on red – a nod to the singer's hit tune and album. Later she joined the lad and his mates for a pint in a pub. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Pal Gregor Sleith said: "A boy in our team was in a fantasy football league with his mates. “The lad who finished bottom for the year had to do a public forfeit. "They made him sit at a table at a restaurant with a cut out as a date." Football fans have praised the humiliating penalty. The official Fantasy Premier League account called it "incredible." Elsewhere, Donagh Barry said: "At least he can scroll away on his mobile phone without being given out to." Jason added: "Where do I sign up to be 'punished' by going on a date with a cutout of Taylor Swift?" Arthur Fowler said: "She's pretty fit to be fair." Mac added: "Decent night out that. Cheap and quiet." James Caiger added: "This is amazing." Another football fan said: "I’ve been on worse dates." Have your say in our news democracy. Former McDonald's chef reveals secret ’10.35 burger’ hack
TikTok is a breeding ground for inspiration, trends, and hacks – especially when it comes to food. Now, a former McDonald's chef has opened up about a secret burger hack, and people can't get enough. In a viral clip shared on the platform that's racked up thousands of views, Mike Haracz (@chefmikeharacz) shared his inside knowledge on the "10.35 burger". Mike responded to a question which asked whether there was "some sort of secret menu or item that's served between breakfast and lunch." The chef went on to inform viewers that there is, and some people refer to it as the "10.35 burger". "You can get a burger with an egg on it," he said, adding that it would be more likely if the customer is familiar with the restaurant, or knows the staff working there. Mike said that he pushed for eggs on burgers to be a thing, and has data to prove the burger was in demand – but his idea was later reportedly shut down. @chefmikeharacz Replying to @staticprevails1 Former #McDonalds corporate chef talks about the 10:35 burger. #mcdonaldshacks #mcdonaldssecrets #mcdonaldsdrivethru #mcdonaldsworker #mcdonaldshack #mcdonaldslife #McDonaldsMenu #mcdonaldsmenuhack #McDonaldsMenuHacks #DoubleCheeseburger #EggMcMuffin #McDouble #FYP His video was inundated with comments from fellow TikTokers, with one writing: "Love an egg on a burger! McDonald’s missed out." "As a former Corp Kitchen Manager you are 100 per cent right about the egg and burger! Nice margins on a $1 add egg as well," a second added. Many more noted how their local McDonald's already sell the burger. "In New Zealand Mcd's we have a limited-run burger called the kiwi burger. It has an egg on it and is very popular," one said, while another commented: "What's crazy is they put eggs on burgers in Japan. I don't know why they would say no to adding them to American menus. Another claimed: "In Maderia Portugal, egg on burgers is normal, as an upgrade." Sign up for our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Have your say in our news democracy. Toto Wolff optimistic as Mercedes target improvement at Austrian Grand Prix
Toto Wolff believes Mercedes’ car should perform better this weekend in Austria than two weeks ago in Canada. The Silver Arrows switched their car philosophy a month ago, bringing in a host of upgrades for the Monaco Grand Prix. The true impact of the revamped car has been seen in the last two races – in Barcelona and Montreal – with improved performance, recording back-to-back podiums including a double podium in Spain. Yet both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell remain short of pace to challenge Red Bull’s Max Verstappen out in front. The Dutchman has a 69-point lead to team-mate Sergio Perez in the Driver Standings, while Red Bull are 154 points clear of Mercedes in the Constructors’ Championship. "There were plenty of positives to take from the last race in Canada," Mercedes boss Wolff said, ahead of this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix. "Although we didn’t get both cars to the chequered flag, a podium was a solid result and we saw encouraging signs from our updated package. "It’s a short lap in Spielberg and looks straightforward on paper; several long straights broken up by a range of slow, medium-speed and fast corners. But it’s a challenging one to put together and get right. "We will aim to build on the momentum we have generated over the past two races and continue our positive trajectory with the car. "It’s a venue where the W14 should perform better than in Canada, but we won’t take anything for granted. As always, we will be working hard to maximise our performance and deliver strong results." This weekend’s action at the Red Bull Ring sees the second sprint race of the season, with qualifying for the grand prix taking place on Friday before ‘sprint day’ on Saturday.
