Google Search Can Now Check Your Grammar

If you're self-conscious about your grammar skills, Google can now spot-check your sentences.

As 9to5Google reports, Google appears to have quietly launched the feature last month. To try it out, type “grammar check” in the search box along with the text you want it to edit. Search will output a small box below your search results indicating whether or not your sentence is grammatically correct. If not, it offer suggestions on how to fix it.

According to the support page for the tool, it uses AI to determine whether or not your sentence is grammatically correct, and it “might not be 100% accurate, especially with partial sentences.”

The feature is currently only available in English and it won’t work for queries that might violate Google Search policies. So don't ask it to copy-edit sentences that include hateful, violent, or sexually explicit content.

The feature is in its early days, and tests from PCMag found that Search didn’t consistently provide grammar results, even when “grammar check” was included in the search query. It seems to be particular about sentence construction. For instance, a search for "i are going to the store grammar check" worked, while "is this sentence write correctly grammar check" did not. So your mileage may vary.

Of course, Google already offers a grammar check in Google Docs and Gmail, so you can also get an answer quickly by just copying and pasting your sentence into either of those instead.

Google is asking for feedback on the results you receive. Scroll down and look for a button for Feedback, where you can let Google know how the tool did.
