PEMBROKE PINES, FLORIDA: A Florida Man has been charged for throwing his family dog into a swimming pool. He allegedly intended to take revenge on his relatives, as per the police.

Corey Vaughn Dacres was arrested on Sunday, August 6, under aggravated animal cruelty as the investigators discovered he ‘intentionally’ drowned the pet dog. The statement was made by Pembroke Pines Police Department (PPPD) while responding to Newsweek in an email.

Corey Vaughn Dacres allegedly drowned a pit bull

The 25-year-old man went home after killing the pit bull terrier and shared the shocking news with his family. After that, his family in desperation called the authorities for help.

The Florida native was presented in court for the first time on Monday, where he was given a $35,000 bond. Further, a judge ordered the accused to take a mental health evaluation, as per Broward County Sheriff's Office booking records.

At this time, the relationships among the family members could not be established.. However, in a Tuesday email responding to Newsweek's request, PPPD spokesperson Amanda Conwell said that due to Marsy's Law, which protects rights and protections for crime victims, Pembroke police are not releasing details on how the suspect is related to the family.

"The suspect is a family member of the victims. There is one primary victim who was the owner of Unity, but the dog was a member of the family," Conwell told Newsweek via email.

The Florida man got into an argument with his family

As per reports, the Florida native got into an argument with his family around 8 pm, Sunday in their apartment. The house is located in the Advenir at San Tropez complex in Pembroke Pines before leaving the unit with the dog, as per Pembroke police.

Dacres then ‘threw the dog over a locked, 5-foot fence surrounding the complex's pool area and jumped the fence himself.’ This allowed him to enter the water with the dog and then held her underwater until she died.

According to the authorities, Unity was a six-year-old dog, who was found dead by the officers at the bottom of the pool.

"Dacres entered the pool with Unity, where he willfully and maliciously drowned the dog," the department said in a statement posted on Facebook. "When he returned home, he alerted his family to his actions, and police were notified."

"Based upon our initial investigation, we believe his actions were the direct results of a verbal dispute he had with family members," Conwell said before adding "This appears to be retaliatory."
